A decoction of chaga. Useful properties of chaga for humans

Chaga of a birch is popularly referred to as an outgrowth of irregular shape, which is formed on trees as a result of their defeat by the fungus of the tinder (M Inonotus obliquus). The size of the growth varies from 5 to 40 cm in diameter, and the thickness sometimes reaches 15 cm.

The appearance of the chaga is rather unattractive - the black color of the surface in the inner part changes to a dark brown, while it adjoins the wood and becomes reddish. Such a growth appears on different trees, but most often on birch trees, and it is the birch chaga that has healing properties. It is found in the groves of Russia and Korea, as well as in Eastern Europe.

Chagu is often confused with tinder false. But, in addition to visual differences, there is another big difference between them - the first one occurs solely on living trees, the second basically appears on dead ones.

The pulp of birch fungus contains all sorts of acids, tannins and minerals, as well as lipids, alkaloids and fiber. Due to its composition, chaga has a beneficial effect on the human body.

Rules for collecting, drying and storing chaga

The unique properties of a birch mushroom depend on how well it was harvested, and therefore, deciding to stock up on their own, you should follow certain rules:

  1. Chaga grows on birches all year round, so you can collect it at any time. Although in early spring and late autumn the fungus is most enriched with useful substances. In addition, in the winter to the trunk of a birch often prevents to get snow, and in summer - dense foliage.
  2. To separate a growth from a birch trunk, there are not enough strong hands, and therefore, when going after it, you should always have a sharp knife and a hatchet in your arsenal. Cut the growth in the vertical direction as close as possible to the trunk of the tree.
  3. It is also important to keep track of which birch a mushroom lives on, because if a tree is dead or starts to die, it will not have a fraction of its healing properties. Likewise, you should not cut the mushroom located near the ground itself.
  4. The buildup should be processed immediately after collection. Unlike the upper dark surface, the light and loose parts of the fungus do not have healing properties - they should be eliminated.
  5. Chaga molds quickly, so it is important to timely cut it into small pieces (no thicker than 6 cm) and dry it. This can be done, for example, in an oven at a low temperature (about 50 degrees). Exceeding the thermal mode will lead to the loss of useful properties.
  6. You can store dry mushroom in glass containers, paper bags or linen bags. Properly dried and packaged, it will retain its healing power for up to 2 years.

The greatest accumulation of nutrients in birch chaga is observed in spring and autumn. Therefore, the harvesting of this raw material is best done 2 times a year. It is recommended to choose a mushroom carefully and avoid fallen and rotting trees: the chaga on them has already lost its beneficial properties. Care must be taken to the fungus itself: it is important that it is dense and does not crumble, and the flesh in the middle should not be black.

The mushroom is very dense, so it must be carefully cut with a large knife or an ax. Chaga after some time may harden, so immediately you need to cut it into equal pieces (5 centimeters) and dry it on the battery or in the dryer.
